Down There: Sexual and Reproductive Health the Wise Woman Way by Susun S. Weed is a wonderful resource if you are working through pelvic or reproductive issues. Broken down into sections designated “For Everyone,” “Especially for Women,” and “Especially for Men,” Weed is phenomenally inclusive in her consideration of pelvic floor, digestive, and urinary conditions. Weed’s focus is on helping you help yourself. Each individual complaint is broken down with a section outlining the who/what/where/why of the condition followed by seven possible courses of treatment ranging from least to most invasive. I adore that the first suggested resolution is always “do nothing.” In some cases, time really is the most effective tool for healing. But on a deeper level, allowing yourself the space to breathe, a moment to think and clear your mind to prep for gathering information (the second suggestion) can allow you to steer clear of rushed surgeries or half thought through decisions that might have even more detrimental effects in the future. I love that she is empowering you to truly find the method that works for you.
Written from an herbalist and energetic/spiritual perspective, Down There has much value in the natural remedies it provides as well as the guidance Weed offers on how to listen to the messages our bodies send us. If you are looking to amass information on pelvic floor conditions and their possible treatments, feel free to read this book cover to cover as I did! It is written in clear language with good flow. However, it is a little like reading through long list after long list to do it that way. Referencing it for what you need as you need it is much more user friendly. Have you read Down There? How has it helped you? Let me know in the comments!
