The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy® can have profound benefits even if your uterus has been removed. In my posts on Arvigo®, I often talk about its benefits in relation to uterine alignment. Does that mean if your uterus has been removed Arvigo® would be a pointless exercise? Absolutely not! Those who are post-hysterectomy can gain much from this abdominal massage.
Soften and Realign Scar Tissue
Even when necessary, surgery is a trauma to the body affecting the fascial tissue as well as muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Connective tissue (fascia) exists in several layers of interweaving fibers each gliding over the other as they create tension to accommodate different motions. These layers get tangled and matted as the body stitches itself back together after an injury forming scars necessary to heal. However, these adhesions can be dysfunctional.
Dysfunctional pelvic scars such as those that result from certain hysterectomy procedures can lead to
Hunched posture/inability to stand fully erect
Deceased circulation through the pelvis and legs
Restless legs/night leg cramps
Constipation
Incontinence
General pelvic pain
Digestive pain
Other abdominopelvic complications
Receiving the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy® and performing the self massage your therapist teaches you can help to realign your scar tissue, making it more functional and relieving or elimination those symptoms.
Prevent Prolapse
Prolapse is a condition in which your pelvic organs fall. There are various stages of prolapse, ranging from mild - wherein the prolapsed organ is out of place enough to cause discomfort - to severe in which the organ leaves the confines of the pelvic cavity via the vagina or anus. This condition can be uterine, bladder, vaginal, or rectal, occasionally involving more than one simultaneously.
Your uterus is the sun of your pelvis. All of the other pelvic structures orient around it. Many major pelvic ligaments also connect to the uterus - these must be cut to perform a hysterectomy. The open space created by the removal of the uterus combined with the diminished ligamentous support increase your risk for vaginal, rectal, and bladder prolapse. Arvigo® massage helps to reduce this risk by lifting the organs and supporting their optimal positioning.

Reconnect with Your Root Energy
Depending on your reason for undergoing hysterectomy, the sudden absence of your uterus might leave you feeling a bit off. Creative energies may not flow as easily. Your memory might feel a bit foggy. Perhaps there is a feeling of something missing. Arvigo® is a beautiful way to spend time listening to your body, helping it to adjust to its new state, and connect to the uterine or root energy that will always remain. Getting in touch with your body in this manner smooths out the transition between with uterus and without in a nurturing, loving way. It is also a simply amazing tool for self care and for fostering self love!
